Fun, Inexpensive Things to Do in New York City – June 2016

All MonthSummerStage: NYC’s city-wide summer performance series. Many performances are free to attend, although some of the big-name concerts in Central Park require paid tickets.

All Month – Free Shakespeare in the Park – The Public Theater’s annual free Shakespeare performances at Central Park’s outdoor Delacorte Theater. This year’s June production is Taming of the Shrew. No shows on Mondays.

June 6 – Taste of Times Square – Over 50 Times Square area restaurants serve up sample of their food at this annual festival. Food tickets are $1 each and dishes cost from 1 to 6 tickets each.

June 15 – 22New York Philharmonic Concerts in the Parks – Each summer the New York Philharmonic puts on a series of free concerts in city parks. This year’s concerts are in Central Park (June 15 & 16), Prospect Park in Brooklyn (June 17), Cunningham Park in Queens (June 20), Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx ( June 21), and at the Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Gardens Music Hall on Staten Island ( June 22).  All concerts begin at 8:00 p.m.. There will be fireworks following the concerts in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and the Bronx.

June 20 & 27 – Free Films in Bryant Park – Enjoy a free outdoor movie in one of NYC’s nicest parks.

June 21 – July 9 (Tuesdays – Saturdays) – Midsummer Night Swing – Outdoor dancing to live music at Lincoln Center’s Damrosch Park.  Different bands and music styles scheduled nightly during the event. Swing, Latin, Disco, Big Band, and more. Dance lessons are provided before the live music begins. Dance floor opens at 6:00 p.m., Lessons are 6:30 – 7: 15.  Music and dancing from 7:00 to 10:00.  Tickets are just $17.

Free Central Park Tours – Introductory tours to the park offered by the Central Park Conservancy. June 7, 9, 14, 16, 22, 27, and 30.
