There are two days each year when the setting sun aligns perfectly with Manhattan’s street grid. This has become known as Manhattanhenge, after the pre-historic Stonhenge rock formation that aligns with the sun for the summer solstice.

The Manhattanhenge dates for 2014 are May 29th and July 12th.

To best observe the phenomenon, go somewhere in the eastern portion of Manhattan and look west across the avenues toward New Jersey.
