broadway-signsIf you’re planning a trip to New York and you want to see some theater, here’s how to get discount Broadway show tickets.

#1 Check NYC Cheap Travel’s Broadway Shows Discount List. We keep track of discount offers for current Broadway shows and when we find new ones, we add them to this list. If there’s more than one discount option for a show, we list them all in one place here. NYC Cheap Travel’s Broadway Discounts List.

#2 Join the Playbill Club. It’s free and you will receive access to special discount codes for 10% to 50% off tickets to Broadway and Off-Broadway shows.  It’s a good way to purchase discount tickets ahead of time. No need to wait in those long lines at the TKTS booths for same-day discount tickets.  Here’s the link to join: http://www.playbill.com/club/join/

#3 Sign up for Goldstar. They offer discount deals on Broadway, Off-Broadway, stand-up comedy shows,  music concerts, and sporting events. They actually have some free comp tickets available. Sign up at the Goldstar website.

#4 Check our current Entertainment Deals. This is where you’ll find the latest information on ticket deals and promo codes.

#5 Visit Broadwaybox.com and check for coupon codes. Theatermania.com has discount codes also.  Coupon codes can usually be redeemed either online, over the phone, or in person at the theater box office.  If you purchase your tickets in person from the theater box office, you can avoid paying the ticket service fees that are tacked on to phone and online orders.

#6 Check the prices at NewYork.com.  The theater ticket prices at NewYork.com vary. Recently, they’ve been the only source of discounted tickets for hot shows such as Les Miserables, If/Then, and Kinky Boots. It’s worth checking to see what they have.

#7 Search Ticket Liquidator for deals on the shows you want to see. Ticket Liquidators is a ticket re-seller. They’re a legit business that offers a 125% guarantee. They’re a good option for hard-to-get tickets to popular shows. Find tickets to the top Broadway shows.

#8 If you’re willing to wait and purchase your tickets on the day of performance, and you’re willing to wait in line for a while, the TKTS booths offer same-day tickets at 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% off full price.  The TKTS booths are located in Times Square (this is the busiest one), South Street Seaport, and Downtown Brooklyn.  TKTS booths information.

#9  You can try to get “Rush” tickets on the day of the performance. Some shows have these discounted tickets available on a first-come-first served basis when the box office opens. Others how rush ticket lotteries. Playbill maintains an up-to-date summary of the Rush ticket policies for all the current shows.

#10. Earn free tickets with Audience Rewards.  This frequent flyer-type program for the theater rewards you with points for tickets purchased and also allows you to convert points from airline frequent traveler programs. You can redeem accumulated points for free tickets to Broadway shows.

#11  If you are a college student, many shows have student discounts available. The most common discount for students is the “student rush” ticket. Each theater has their own policy for how they handle these tickets, some are sold an hour or two before curtain time, some when the box office opens. Broadwayspotted’s guide to rush ticket policies has all the information for current shows.  Some shows sell discount student tickets in advance through tix4students.com. There’s a $5 annual membership fee to use that site, but the discounts are good and advance purchase lets you avoid lines, so it’s probably worth it.

#12 Load the TodayTix app onto your smart phone and use it to purchase discounted tickets.  Tickets to shows are available for about a week in advance. You’ll have a variety of seating sections and prices to choose from, and once you make your purchase the tickets will be hand-delivered to you at the theatre.  TodayTix.com
