  • How the New York CityPass Works – Six Top Attractions

     

    With the New York CityPass, you pay one price and you get admission to six popular attractions.  There aren’t options with this pass; everyone pays the same price and has access to the same set of attractions. The current price for the New York CityPass is $116 for adults and $92 for kids age 6 – 17.

    The pass is good for nine consecutive days, beginning on the day you use it for the first time.

     

    Included Attractions

    The attraction admission included with CityPass are:

    • Empire State Building Observatory
    • American Museum of Natural History
    • The Metropolitan Museum of Art
    • MoMA (The Museum of Modern Art)
    • Top of the Rock or the Guggenheim Museum
    • Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island or Circle Line Cruises
    • 9/11 Memorial & Museum or Intrepid Sea,Air & Space Museum

    For the Circle Line Cruises option, you can choose from the Landmark Cruise, Harbor Lights Cruise, or The Beast Thrill Ride.

     

    Where to Buy a CityPass

    You can purchase your CityPass online in advance or at any of the CityPass attractions.   If you purchase online, you’ll have the option of recieving an e-mail voucher or having the ticket booklet mailed to you. If you choose the email voucher option, you’ll have to exchange it for your ticket booklet once you get to New York City. Order far enough in advance to receive the booklet in the mail and you can skip that step.

     

    How to Use CityPass

    Present your CityPass booklet at the entry to each attraction. Where you present your booklet varies with each attraction. At some attractions, you’ll need to wait in the ticket line and exchange your booklet voucher for a ticket. At other locations, you’ll be able to skip the ticket line.  Some have designated CityPass lines. Find out what’s required at each location here.

     

    How Much do you Save?

    The CityPass get you into six included attractions for up to 40% off the cost of paying regular price at each of the individual attractions.  Note that the Metropolitan Museum of Art and American Museum of Natural History operate on a suggested donation policy, meaning you could pay less than the suggested donation, which is used in the CityPass price comparison.

     

    Other Attraction Pass Options

    Other New York City attraction pass options to consider:

    The New York Pass is priced according to the number of days that it’s good for. During those days, it get’s you into any of the over 70 participating attractions.

    The New York Explorer Pass is priced according to how many attractions you want to see.  You can purchase passes for 3, 5, 7, or 10 attractions.  There are over 50 participating attractions and you don’t have to choose which one’s you want to visit in advance. You have 30 days from the first use to see the number of attractions included with your pass.

  • Guggenheim Museum Admission Discount

     

    guggenheim-street-viewAdmission to the Guggenheim Museum is regularly $22 for adults, $18 for seniors, and $18 for students. Kids under 12 years of age get in free.

    AAA Discount: AAA members can show their membership card for a $3.00 discount on adult admission.

    The museum has “pay what you wish” entry on Saturdays beginning at 5:45 pm, with the last tickets issued at 7:15.

    The Guggenheim has been a past participant in the annual Blue Star Museums program, which provides free admission to active military personnel and their families between Memorial Day and Labor Day. The Blue Star Museum program is updated each year. Visit their website for details regarding participating museums.

    It’s all about the money, but it won’t cost a cent to visit the Museum of American Finance if you go on a Saturday. Other days of the week the admission fee is $8 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.

    You’ll learn all about the history of Wall Street, money and finance as you explore permanent and featured exhibits.

    The museum is located at 48 Wall Street, in the heart of Manhattan’s Financial District.  Hours are Tuesday – Saturday, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

  • See the Centennial New Year's Ball at The Times Square Museum

    new-yearsYou can get a nice close look at the beautiful Centennial New Year’s ball used in 2007 at The Times Square Museum. The small museum is open free of charge seven days a week from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm.  You’ll find the museum entrance on 7th Avenue, between 46th and 47th Streets.

    The Centennial Ball is part of a “Times Square Spectacular” light show that simulates a New Year’s Eve countdown at :05, :25, and :45 of each hour.

    Another neat feature of the museum is a confetti Wishing Wall.  Write your wishes for the upcoming year on a piece of confetti and it will be added to the two tons of of the stuff that showers down on Times Square at midnight New Year’s Eve. It would be fun to watch the celebration on TV and know that a little bit of something you wrote is there.

    For those who can’t visit the museum but still want to join in the fun, there’s a virtual wishing wall. Submit your wish and it will be printed onto a piece of confetti and added to the New Year’s celebration.
