The Daily Show with Trevor Noah is Comedy Central’s popular talk/news satire program.

The show tapes in New York City in front of an audience. Tickets to be in the audience are free and available online. Tickets are usually released about a month in advance.

You need to be 18 years of age or older to be in the studio audience.

The show usually tapes Monday – Thursday. Audience check-in starts around 5:00 p.m. and taping is completed around 8:00 p.m..

    Guaranteed & Non-Guaranteed Tickets

There are two types of tickets available for The Daily Show, Guaranteed tickets and Non-Guaranteed tickets. Both are available through the same online reservation process. The guaranteed tickets get booked up first, but grab one of those if you get a chance. Tip: Sometimes people with the guaranteed tickets cancel at the last minute, so keep checking back at the ticket website to see if any guaranteed spots become available.

If you have a guaranteed ticket, you are guaranteed to have a seat in the audience as long as you show up by the appointed time.

Those with non-guaranteed tickets are admitted on a first-come-first-served basis. If all the seats fill up before they get to your spot in line, you might not get into the show.

    One Ticket, Four People

The Daily Show handles tickets a little differently from other shows. One person applies for a ticket through the online reservation system and then that person can bring up to three guests (for a total of four people). The guests have to be with the ticket-holder at the time of check-in. You specify the number of tickets you want (up to four) during the online reservation process, but only supply one name.

    Check-In Time

NOTE: Please verify times by visiting the official Daily Show ticketing page.

Check-in time for people with guaranteed tickets is from 4:30 to 5:00 p.m.. If you don’t check in by 5:00, you’ll forfeit your guaranteed seat.

Check-in time for people with non-guaranteed tickets starts at 5:00 p.m.. People are admitted to the show in the order of their place in line at check-in, so those near the front of the line have the best chance of getting a seat for the show.

    Location

The studio is located at 733 11th Avenue (between  51st and 52nd Streets) in Manhattan.

  • City of Water Day – Free Festival and Boat Tours

    Annual Waterfront Celebration

The City of Water Day Festival is an annual Waterfront Alliance event that features a variety of free activities and boat tours in celebration of New York and New Jersey waterfront.

The waterfront activities fair is held on Governors Island and free boat tours depart from various waterfront locations around the city. Partnering organizations will also hold City of Water Day events throughout the city. Take a look at the “In Your Neighborhood” section of the Waterfront Alliance’s website for details.

The 2017 date for City of Water Day is Saturday, July 15th. The event runs from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m..

    Free Boat Rides

A variety of companies and organizations offer free boat tours on City of Water Day. Rides are offered on all kinds of boats, such as ferries, tall ships, fire boats, and tugboats.

If you want to take one of the free boat tours, you’ll need to reserve you tickets in advance. Boat tour reservations open in the end of June, so keep an eye on the Waterfront Alliance website for announcements.

Although the boat tours are free, there is a refundable $5 reservation fee per passenger. If you show up and take the tour, the fee will be credited back to you. If you don’t check in for the tour, you’ll lose the reservation fee.

    Cardboard Boat Race

One of the fun Governors Island activities is the cardboard boat race.

Teams need to pre-register during the spring to compete, but if you’re not on one of the teams building a boat, you can still have fun watching the competition. The teams have two hours to build a boat out of cardboard, which they’ll then race on the waters off Governors Island. The races begin at 2:30. We like the part of the regulations that says, “Boats that disintegrate mid-race will be disqualified.”

The Mall is lined with American Elm Trees and, at it’s southern end, statues of renowned authors, giving it the name “Literary Walk.”

The four large statues on in honor of Fitz-Greene Halleck, Robert Burns, Sir Walter Scott and William Shakespeare.  An interesting note is that the statue of Fitz_Greene Halleck, installed in 1877, was the first statue in Central Park to depict an American. Halleck was a poet who lived much of his life in New York City.

The Mall leads to Bethesda Fountain, another of Central Park’s most iconic locations.

  • Big Apple Greeters

See the New York City with a Local Resident

Big Apple Greeters is a volunteer organization that connects New York City visitors with knowledgeable residents who will show them around and help get them oriented to the city.

Visitors can suggest neighborhoods they’re interested in visiting and any special interests they might have. Greeter visits last two to four hours. It’s suggested that you plan your Greeter visit for the first day or two of your stay in the city because the Greeter can provide tips on finding your way around the city that will prove useful for the remainder of your stay.

You can request a Greeter through the Big Apple Greeters website. Submit your request at 3 – 4 week prior to your arrival in New York City. The Big Apple Greeter website suggests submitting your request as early as possible to increase your likelihood of getting a Greeter (there are sometime more requests than available Greeter volunteers, so not all Greeter requests get filled).

The Big Apple Greeter service is free and they have a no tipping policy. The only requirement is that visitors stay for a minimum of two nights within the five boroughs of New York City.

If you’re happy with the service and would like to provide financial support to the not-for-profit Big Apple Greeter organization, there’s a donation form on their website.

See TripAdvisor comments from people who have used the Big Apple Greeter service.
