    The New York Classical Theatre puts on free shows in New York City parks throughout the summer.

    The 2018 summer production is Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet. The performance schedule is listed below. All performances begin at 7:00 p.m.

  • Rhiannon Giddens Free Concert in Central Park

    Rhiannon Giddens will perform a free SummerStage concert at Rumsey Playfield in Central Park on Saturday June 16, 2018. The concert starts at 7:00 p.m., doors open at 6:00 p.m.

    Son Little will also join Giddens for the concert.

    Each year around Memorial Day, US Navy ships dock at New York City’s harbors and the streets of the city fill with thousands of visiting Sailors, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen.

    New York City’s annual Fleet Week is held in celebration of the sea services and features ship visitations and special military performances, demonstrations, and events throughout the week.

    The dates for the 2018 NYC Fleet Week are May 23 – 29.

     

    Fleet Week Events

    Check the Fleet Week website for a schedule of activities and events, including free performances by military bands and drill teams. The Fleet Week Facebook page is also good source of information.

    The visiting ships are open for free tours throughout the week. Ships dock in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Staten Island. A list of visiting ships is provided at the Fleet Week website.

    The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum hosts special events during Fleet Week, including Military demonstrations, special displays, and entertainment. Activities on the ship require an admission fee (all U.S. active military and veterans receive free admission). Events on the pier are free and open to the public.

  • Free Submarine Growler Exhibit at Pier 86

    The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum has opened a new USS Growler exhibit in celebration of the Growler’s 60th commissioning anniversary. The exhibit, which offers historical artifacts, oral histories and immersive experiences to provide a behind-the-scenes look at life on board, is free to visit. If you wish to board and tour the Growler, Intrepid Museum admission is required.

    The Intrepid Museum and the Growler exhibit are located at Pier 86 on the Hudson River.

    Discount Admission: You can save a few dollars buy purchasing Intrepid Museum tickets through Goldstar. They have Adult General Admission tickets for $24.75 + $4.25 service fee for a total of $29, and Child tickets (ages 5 – 12) for $18.00 + $3.25 service fee for a total of $21.25. Good for admission any day through December 31, 2018. See the offer details.

    Regular price Intrepid Museum general admission is $33 for adults, $31 for seniors (65+), and $24 for children ages 5 – 12. U.S. Military and veterans are admitted free of charge.

    Intrepid Museum admission is included with the following attraction passes: The Sightseeing Pass (includes fast track entry), The New York Pass (includes fast track entry), and The New York City Explorer Pass.

    Tim McGraw aand Faith Hill are performing for the Today Show’s Citi Concert Series Friday, November 17, 2017. The concert is part of the morning show broadcast.

    The Today  concerts are held at the Today Show Plaza at Rockefeller Center. The plaza is on 48th Street, between 5th and 6th Avenues.


    Admission is free and on a first-come-first-served basis. The concerts are very popular and the Today Show Plaza fills up fast on mornings when there’s a concert (usually Fridays). The show suggests that people arrive by 5:00 a.m. to get a good spot. Performances usually run from 8:00 to 9:00 a..m.

    A limited number of Fan Passes are distributed via a digital lottery system.

  • Special Free 20th Anniversary Performance of The Lion King – In Person Lottery Entries

    The Broadway production of The Lion King is celebrating their 20th Anniversary with a special free performance Wednesday, November 15th at 8:00 p.m.. at the Minskoff Theatre

    Tickets for the show will be give away via a special lottery. You must enter the lottery in person on November 12th at the Lion King Times Square Celebration, or one of the other special lottery locations.

    In addition to the lottery, the Times Square celebration will have photo ops, meet & greet with cast members, give-aways, a virtual reality experience, and instructor led drum circles.

    The Lion King 20th Anniversary Lottery Locations. All are for Sunday, November 12th.: 

    You must be 18 years or older to enter.  Limit one entry per person. Duplicate entries will disqualify all entries.

    Winners will be able to select either one or two tickets.

    Winners will be chosen at random and notified by Broadway Direct on Monday, November 13, 2017. Winner notification via email will begin at 10:00 a.m. and continue throughout the day.

    Please keep an eye on your email. If chosen, you will have 1 hour to complete the RSVP process. If you do not complete the RSVP process within 1 hour, another winner will be chosen.

    Make sure the name you enter matches the name on your photo ID. If you are a winner, you must present a valid photo ID to pick up your tickets at the Minskoff Theatre.

    All tickets must be picked up at the Minskoff Theatre by 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2017. All tickets not picked up by this time will be released to a standby line.

  • Pumpkin Flotilla in Central Park

    Halloween Pumpkin Flotilla

    Each year, Central Park hosts a Pumpkin Flotilla as part of their Halloween Celebrations.

    Participants bring carved pumpkins to the Dana Discovery Center at the northern end of Central Park. The first 50 pumpkins received are set afloat on the waters of Harlem Meer.

    The 2017 event takes place Sunday, October 29th. The lit pumpkin flotilla will be launched at twilight (around 6:30 p.m.)

    In addition to the Pumpkin Flotilla, there will be Halloween stories and crafts from 4:00 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. and a Halloween costume parade from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
