  • Pumpkin Flotilla in Central Park

    Halloween Pumpkin Flotilla

    Each year, Central Park hosts a Pumpkin Flotilla as part of their Halloween Celebrations.

    Participants bring carved pumpkins to the Dana Discovery Center at the northern end of Central Park. The first 50 pumpkins received are set afloat on the waters of Harlem Meer.

    The 2017 event takes place Sunday, October 29th. The lit pumpkin flotilla will be launched at twilight (around 6:30 p.m.)

    In addition to the Pumpkin Flotilla, there will be Halloween stories and crafts from 4:00 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. and a Halloween costume parade from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

    The Dana Discovery Center and Harlem Meer are located at the northeast corner of Central Park, at 110th Street, between Fifth and Lenox Avenues.

  • Halloween Fun in NYC 2014

    halloweenIf you’re going to be in NYC around Halloween 2014, here are some ideas for Halloween fun and some discounts to save you money.

    Central Park Halloween Parade and Pumpkin Sail – October 26, 2014 3:30 – 6:30pm.  Costumed fun, kids activities, and carved pumpkins set afloat at the Carles A. Dana Discovery Center.

    Village Halloween Parade – They call it “the nation’s most wildly creative public participatory event in the greatest city in the world.”  The Village Halloween Parade has been happening for 40 years now.  The 2014 parade will be held on Friday, October 31st at 7:00 p.m.  You can watch the parade on 6th Avenue between Spring Street and 16th Street.

     

    Times Scare New York City  (located at 42nd Street and 8th Avenue) is said to be one of the most haunted building in the country (there was a crematorium located there in the 1920’s). Times Scare features a haunted house, cocktail lounge (featuring drinks such as “Bewitched” and “Corpse Reviver” ) and the Crypt Cafe. Times Scare is open year-round, but makes a particularly appropriate destination for Halloween. Regular admission price is $27 for adults and $22 for kids.  LivingSocial has a discount ticket offer with $16 tickets for adults and $13 for kids.

    Blood Manor“, another NYC creepy attraction for the Halloween season, is back for its 10th year.  Located at 163 Varick Street, in the Hudson Square District.  General admission tickets are $33.50 online in advance or $35 at the door. Goldstar has general admission tickets for $20.25.  They also have express entry tickets for $33.75.

    The Haunted Pumpkin Garden at The New York Botanical Garden is a fun Halloween outing for the kids. The Everett Children’s Adventure Garden features giant carved pumpkins, and there are two parades held each afternoon that the kids can participate in. On the weekends, there are bugs and creepy creatures on exhibit.  LivingSocial has discount tickets available.
