  • Piano in Bryant Park – Free Summertime Music


    If you find yourself near Bryant Park (between 40th and 42nd Streets and 5th and 6th Avenues) on a weekday afternoon, stop by the Upper Terrace to here some live (and free) piano music.

    The music happens week days from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

    The Upper Terrace is on the NY Public Library end of the park.

  • Lincoln Center Out of Doors – Three Weeks of Free Entertainment


    Lincoln Center is hosting three weeks of free music, dance, and spoken word performances, July 20 – August 10th. Everything is held outdoors at Lincoln Center’s outdoor plazas and the Damrosch Park Bandshell.  Performances include dance from around the world, globalFEST concerts, Americanafest NYC concerts, and family events.

    All performances are free.

  • Free New York Philharmonic Concerts in Central Park

    violinThe New York Philharmonic will play two free 2014 summer concerts in Central Park

    July 11, 2014 – Alan Gilbert conducts a program of Strauss, Smetana, and Tchaikovsky.  Concert on the Great Lawn begins at 8:00 p.m.  Westside entrances: West 81st Street or 86th Street at Central Park West.  Eastside entrances: East 79th Street or 85th Street at Fifth Avenue.

    July 14, 2014 – Alan Gilbert conducts.  Featuring Joshua Bell on violin.  Pieces by Nielsen, Bruch, Grieg, and Liszt.  Concert on the Great Lawn. Westside entrances: West 81st Street or 86th Street at Central Park West.  Eastside entrances: East 79th Street or 85th Street at Fifth Avenue.

    The Philharmonic also performs summer concerts at Prospect Park in Brooklyn, Cunningham Park in Queens, and Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.  See the complete schedule.

     

  • July 16 & 17 Lowdown Hudson Blues Festival – Free


    The Lowdown Hudson Blues Festival is a free outdoor blues concert event held in Lower Manhattan at the Brookfield Place Waterfront Plaza.  There will be two days of music, July 16th and 17th, 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

    Although the festival is free, you’ll need tickets to get into the seating area. Free tickets will be distributed at the Waterfront Plaza at Brookfield Place, two per person, beginning at 3:00 p.m. on the day of the show.  There will also be a standing room section that doesn’t require tickets, but space is limited.

  • 4 Knots Festival – Free Music at South Street Seaport


    This event hosted by The Village Voice features two stages of free music July 12, 2014 from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. at South Street Seaport.

    This year’s bands include Dinosaur Jr, Mac DeMarco, Those Darlins, Speedy Ortiz, Viet Cong, Nude Beach, Juan Wauters, Re-Tros, and Dead Stars.

  • B.B. King Blues Club NYC, Discount Tickets

    B.B. King Blues Club and Grill is a popular live music venue.  They feature a variety of acts and ticket prices vary accordingly. With their Saturday and Sunday brunches you get a buffet meal along with a live performance by the Harlem Gospel Choir on Sundays and the Strawberry Fields Beatles tribute band on Saturdays.

    The club is located at 237 West 42nd Street, between 7th and 8th Avenues.

    Enjoy Jazz at Lincoln Center performances at the beautiful Rose Theater and Appel Room.

    Goldstar has discount tickets to several upcoming performances.

    To access the Goldstar offers, you’ll need to register with their site.  It’s free and easy, all they ask for is an email address and zipcode.  If you’re not already registered, a sign up form will pop up when you go to their website.

    June 5 & 6 – Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra Pays Tribute to Duke Ellington.  Discount tickets are $ 25.00 – $47.50 (regular full-price $50 – $95)

    June 6 & 7 – Bill Frisell on Electric Guitar.  Discount tickets are $16.25 – $37.50 (regular full-price $65 – $75)

    Also, if you’re in New York City, you can visit the Zucker Box Office at Lincoln Center’s David Rubenstein Atrium Tuesdays – Saturdays for week-of-performance tickets discounted 25% to 50% off the regular price.  Discount tickets are limited in availability and the discount varies by performance.

    Jazz at Lincoln Center is located in the Time Warner Center at Broadway and 60th Street, right across from Columbus Circle.
