    Historic Richmond Town

    Historic Richmond Town is an original town and farm complex that dates back to the 1600s that operated as a historic site and museum that tells the stories life in earlier times.

    There are 30 historic structures at the Richmond Town site, plus more at satellite locations.

    The site is best visited during one of their special days or events. Special events and tours of various themes are conducted regularly to help visitors best experience the site. Upcoming events are listed on  the Historic Richmond Town website.

    Location

    The Historic Richmond Town museum complex is located in the neighborhood of Richmondtown near the center of Staten Island, at the intersection of Richmond Road and Arthur Kill Road.

     

    Hours and Admission Fee

    Historic Richmond Town is open Wednesday through Sunday. Visit the Historic Richmond Town website to verify dates and hours.

    The regular admission fee is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and students (ages 12 – 17), and $5 for children ages 4 – 11.

    Admission on Fridays is free.

  • Little Red Lighthouse Festival

    Celebrate Manhattan’s only remaining lighthouse at the annual Little Red Lighthouse Festival.

    The event features Urban Park Ranger educational presentations, visits to the lighthouse interior, readings of The Little Red Lighthouse children’s book, fishing clinics, live music, food vendors, and fun family activities.

    The event is free and open to the public.

    Location

    The Little Red Lighthouse is located in Fort Washington Park at West 181 Street and Plaza Lafayette.

    Enter the park at 158th or 181st Street and follow the pathways to the waterfront. Walk towards the George Washington Bridge, where the Lighthouse is located.

    Dates

    The 2017 Little Red Lighthouse Festival is Saturday, October 7th from noon to 4:00 p.m.

    Kelly Clarkson is performing for the Today Show’s Citi Concert Series Friday, September 8, 2017. The concert is part of the morning show broadcast.

    The Today summer concerts are held at the Today Show Plaza at Rockefeller Center. The plaza is on 48th Street, between 5th and 6th Avenues.


    Admission is free and on a first-come-first-served basis. The concerts are very popular and the Today Show Plaza fills up fast on mornings when there’s a concert (usually Fridays). The show suggests that people arrive by 5:00 a.m. to get a good spot. Performances usually run from 8:00 to 9:00 a..m.

    A limited number of Fan Passes are distributed via a digital lottery system.

    Register now for a chance to receive a Fan Pass, giving you and one guest priority access to the show.

  • 2017 Free Community Day at the US Open Tennis Tournament

    Thursday, September 7, 2017 is Community Day at the US Open Tennis Tournament at Flushing Meadows in Queens.

    Entry is free beginning at noon. You’ll be able to watch men’s and women’s doubles matches, the men’s and women’s wheelchair competition matches, the US Open Juniors matches, and American Collegiate Invitational matches.

    It’s all free and open to the public.

    The event is held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Queens.

  • Pier i Picture Show Free Outdoor Movies

    Free Films on Pier i at 7th Street

    Enjoy free outdoor movies at the Pier 1 Picture Show summertime movies series presented by the the Riverside Park Conservancy, on Pier i at 79th Street and the Hudson River.

    The Pier I Picture Show Film Series takes place on Wednesdays in July and August.

    The 2017 dates are July 5 – August 16.  The 2017 films are : July 5 Blazing Saddles; July 12 Dr. Strangelove; July 19 What’s Up Doc; July 26 The Truman Show; August 2 The Muppets Movie; August 9 The Big Lebowski; August 16 Beetlejuice.

    Seating starts at 6:30 p.m. and the film begins at dusk, approximately 8:30 p.m.

    Seating is limited, unreserved, and available on a first-come first-served basis beginning 1- 2 hours before the event. If there is heavy rain at the time of the event, the event will be cancelled. No rain dates are scheduled. If attendance reaches maximum capacity, management reserves the right to close participation.

    Location

    The movies are held on Pier i. on the Hudson River at 70th Street.

  • The US Open Qualifying Tournament is Free and Open to the Public

    The Free Tournament before the Tournament

    See some of the best tennis players in the world compete at the US Open Qualifying Tournament at Flushing Meadows in Queens, free of charge.

    The qualifying tournament is held the week before the U.S. Open, in the same complex  (the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center) where the big tournament is held, and this qualifying tournament is free and open to the public. The tournament, which features 128 player fields for both men and women, determines who gets the last 16 men’s and women’s spots in the U.S. Open.

    The 2017 US Open Qualifying Tournament takes place Tuesday, August 22 through Friday, August 25 at Flushing Meadows.

    If you attend this free event, you’ll also have an opportunity to watch some of the top players practice in preparation for the Open. Practice courts are open for viewing Monday, August 21 – Sunday August 27.

  • Photoville – Free Photography Exhibit at Brooklyn Bridge Park

    A Free Photography Festival Housed in a Temporary Village of Shipping Containers

    Photoville returns to Brooklyn Bridge Park for its 6th year September 13th – 17th and 21st – 24th, 2017.

    This annual festival creates an unusual venue for photo exhibitions, workshops, panel discussions, and more by creating a temporary village out of over 50 shipping containers placed Brooklyn Bridge Park.

    In addition to the photography exhibits, activities, and events, there is a beer garden and Smorgasburg food vendors.

    Photoville spans two long weekends (Thurs – Sunday) and is open from noon to 10:00 p.m. most days. See the daily schedule.

    The event is free and open to the public.

    Location

    The Photoville container village is set up at Brooklyn Bridge Plaza in Brooklyn Bridge Park. This is the portion of the park that is directly under the span of the Brooklyn Bridge.

    Brooklyn Bridge Park is on the Brooklyn side of the East River. You can get there from Manhattan by subway, bus, or ferry. The NYC Ferry will take you right across the river from Pier 11 in Lower Manhattan to Brooklyn Bridge Park.

  • The Seaport Music Festival

    Free Music Festival at South Street Seaport

    The free Seaport Music Festival returns to the NYC waterfront September 7th  – 10th, 2017.

    This year’s festival mark the 15th anniversary of the event, which was on hiatus from 2015 – 2016.

    The Seaport Music Festival is a free, all-ages event.

    Performers scheduled for the 2017 festival include Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, The Make-Up, Martin Rev, James Chance & the Contortions, Jean Grae, Azar Swan, Big Huge, The Dance Cartel, and more.

    The Seaport Festival is presented by the Village Voice and South Street Seaport Museum.

    The event takes place in South Street Seaport, along the Lower Manhattan waterfront.

  • Global Citizen Free Concert in Central Park Sept 23, 2017

    Stevie Wonder, Green Day, The Killers, The Lumineers, and the Chainsmokers are headliners for a free ticketed festival on the Great Lawn in Central Park on September 23, 2017.

    The concert is part of a movement to encourage people to take action to end extreme poverty.

    Sets of tickets will be given away to people who sign up for the Global Citizen Movement and earn entries to the ticket drawing by taking certain actions to help end poverty.

    It’s all spelled out at the Global Citizen website.

    Other performers scheduled for the concert include Pharrell Williams, Big Sean, Andra Day, the Killers, the Lumineers and Alessia Cara.
