  • Win Tickets to Opening Night of "Sideshow" on Broadway

    NewYork.com is giving away 100 sets of tickets to to the opening night of the new, highly-anticipated Broadway musical “Side Show.” One hundred winners will receive two tickets to the show’s opening night on Broadway and two tickets to an exclusive pre-show cocktail hour.


    Sideshow” is based on the real-life story of conjoined twins Daisy and Violet Hilton who became well-known vaudeville performers in the 1920s and 30s.

    This show originally appeared on Broadway in 1997. It closed after a limited run despite getting several Tony Award nominations. In the years since, the show has gained a cult following and this new re-working of the show is getting lots of attention. The creative team behind this production including writer/director Bill Condon (“Chicago” and “Dreamgirls”), Grammy Award winning composer Henry Krieger, and Tony Award nominated lyricist Bill Russell.

    The show stars Erin Davie and Emily Padgett as the Hilton twins.

    Opening Night is November 17th. The show is playing at the St. James Theatre, 246 West 44th Street (between Broadway and 8th Avenue).

  • Open House New York. Oct. 11 & 12


    One weekend each year, hundreds of New York City sites that are normally off-limits to the public open their doors for Open House New York.

    Open House New York 2014 happens October 11th and 12th.

    Some of the sites provide free public access and can be visited at any time during their specified hours for the event. Some sites and tours require reservations. The sites and tours that require a reservation charge a $5 fee. You can make your reservations online.

  • Broadway Flea Market and Grand Auction

    Broadway Flea Market and Grand Auction – A Broadway Cares event.

    September 21st 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

    Here’s a great opportunity for Broadway theater fans to do a little shopping for Broadway treasures and to meet Broadway show cast members.  The event is a fundraiser for Broadway Cares.

    Current Broadway shows will host tables of items for sale, including signed memorabilia, costume sketches, props, and photographs. Shows scheduled to participate include Aladdin, Beautiful, The Book of Mormon, Cabaret, Cinderella, If/Then, The Lion King, Kinky Boots, Les Miserables, Mamma Mia!, Matilda, Newsies, Once, The Phantom of the Opera, Rock of Ages, and Wicked.

    The outdoor market will be held in the pedestrian plaza along Broadway between 43rd and 44th Streets; along 44th Street between 7th and 8th Avenues; and in Shubert Alley.  There will be an Autograph Table and photo booths on the deck of Junior’s Restaurant in Shubert Alley.  You can get autographs and photos with cast members in exchange for donations to Broadway Cares.

    Silent auctions are held throughout the day, with new ones opened every thirty minutes. There’s a live auction that begins at 5:00 p.m.

    The event is free to attend and open to the public.

  • Birding Tours of Bryant Park – Free


    Take one of these tours presented in partnership with New York City Audubon and learn about the birds that live in Bryant Park and look for fall migrants passing through. The green areas provided by New York City’s parks provide welcome stop-overs for migrating songbirds.

    The 2014 fall birding tours are scheduled for September 15 and October 2, 9, 16 & 23. 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Meet at 42nd Street and 6th Avenue.

    The Boomerang Theatre Company presents free performances of Shakespeare’s Love’s Labor Lost in Bryant Park, August 14 – 30th.  The performances are Thursdays through Saturdays (August 15, 16, 21, 22, 23, 28, 29 & 30)  on the Upper Terrace Steps from 7:00 p.m. to 9:10 p.m.

    Movies and television shows are filming in New York City pretty much all the time. If you know where to look, you might be able to catch a glimpse of a film or production crew working on the streets of New York.

  • Sunset on the Hudson Free Friday Concerts


    Enjoy free local music and views of the Hudson at this Hudson River Park summertime Friday concert series. Sunset on the Hudson concerts happen in 2014 on Fridays, June 6 – August 22 at Pier 45 in Greenwich Village.

    Pier 45 is located at Christopher Street and the Hudson River.

  • Lincoln Center Out of Doors – Free Music and Dance


    Lincoln Center Out of Doors kicked off this weekend with a special tribute concert for Pete and Toshi Seeger.  Free concerts and dance performances will continue through August 10th.  Events are held at the Damrosch Park Bandshell and on the plazas around Lincoln Center.

    There’s International music, Americana music, National Dance Day, and family events including a “Baby Loves Disco” dance party.

    Some of the headline musical performers include Roberta Flack, Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell, Tift Merrit, Rosanne Cash, The Devil Makes Three, Cassandra Wilson, and Buddy Miller & Jim Lauderdale.
